Milan Fashion Week: Runway Round Up

Hi all. I've got an special guest post lined up for today from writer at Missguided, Olivia Golding.

Hope you enjoy! Olivia, take it away....

The SS14 fashion weeks are all now sadly over. It’s not all doom and gloom however, as there were plenty of smokin’ hot trends to take away from each show. Now, the Italians are renowned for their sultry sexiness, so where better to turn to for style inspiration? Let’s take a look at the Milan Fashion Week offering – I’m already super excited for next spring just thinking about the gorgeous trends on display. Here is your runway round up from MFW.

Rock chick – Versace
In contrast to the usual skin tight clothes shown by Donatella Versace’s models, the designer opted this time for street-inspired fluidity, with a collection of vamped up every day fabrics to deliver the statement style she is so renowned for.

The designer said: “I think at the moment it’s all about easy things to wear; women love to wear jeans and a T-shirt so I want to give these ordinary things the status of luxury.” – Couldn’t have put it better myself!

The Versace collection featured tough girl leather biker jackets, platform strappy sandals and metallic chains. With under tones of fabrics such as silk slip dresses and T-shirts, Versace brought a more delicate, softer style to a look that heavily underpins the ultimate rock chick.

Sporty elements
Casual and sporty highlights were seen across the shows from the likes of Marni, Gucci, Trussardi, Antonio Marras, and Prada. But for 2014, the aim is not to go all-out sporty. Rather, incorporating sporty elements will help to tone down a smarter, more elegant look. Think sports luxe bomber jackets teamed with clean lined, tailored trousers. Work the trend yourself with this Chicago print oversized tee from Missguided. Wear with leggings and add skyscraper heels to finish. Don’t be afraid to inject pops of bright colour into your outfits – use the smarter, tailored pieces to add a touch of feminine demure and classic elegance to an otherwise casual approach.

Do it like a dude!
Over at Salvatore Ferragamo’s show, the message was one of strong masculinity. Think sharp and tailored with a twist of femininity brought together with the likes of suit jackets and blazers teamed with a mini kilt skirt and the strappy high heeled sandals seen everywhere this year at MFW.

There’s no question that women can do everything a man can do and more, and Ferragamo’s collection for SS14 is definitely one for the strong-willed, empowered woman. Keep hair and make-up simple and natural looking and let your inner dude(ette) shine through.

Primary colour blocking – Prada
A far cry away from the sleek, single toned Ferragamo pieces, the Prada SS14 collection was jam packed full of eye-popping bright colours. 70s inspired colour blocking could be seen along with an eye-watering clash of primary colours red, blue and yellow. This loud and proud statement vision was not aimed to shock, but to stand out from the crowd.

Indeed, when you take a closer look, the collection is full of timeless classic shapes and styles, including envelope shoulder bags, kilts and polo neck jumpers. Once again, the perfect blend of sleek and sporty adds a touch of sophistication to the everyday casual look.

What’s your favourite trend from Milan Fashion Week?

Thanks so much to Olivia for filling in for me today. I love the quote from Donatella and the Salvatore Ferragamo dute(ette) inspiration! Oh and those shoes :)

  2. Totally agree with Versace, we DO just want to wear easy clothes like t-shirts and jeans all the time! Great post.

  3. Love Donatella's attitude and this concept so true!

  4. That brings us to quite possibly the most intriguing match-up to that
point of the season when Oregon comes to Rice-Eccles.
